Makers and Making: DIY: turn a toy RC car into a remote anything

This is a DIY project I've done and see if anyone can improve it. What I did was take out the recever chip out of the car and cut the wires that go to the motor (you will need these wires) next i linked to diodes opposite from each other so when you press the foward button on the remote 1 diode will let current pass and the other will block. Same with reverse only the other ay around. i then linked up to relays which controlled a Flip-flop. from there a linked another relay that controlles household current or whatever you want to turn on/off remotly. I'm sure there ir room for improvement and I would love to hear any input.
