Look on Freecycle. I just scored a non-working Tektronix that I sold on Ebay. I used the money I made to buy a working one. Ebay is a good source for cheap scopes. i've also seen them on Craigslist. You can also buy scope crt's on Ebay, which might serve your purpose better.

I've seen 'scopes on here in lots of five for $50 - no guarantees on some of them working, but the prices are cool. There are a lot of tempting buys here, particularly since I live near one of the bases that have a lot of the equipment...

The thing to have is one of the rack mount units with lots of little oscillscopes in them.

A lot of the circuit benders are using old televisions, and you should be able to use old computer monitors. Maybe that's where the question here on the forums about how to drive them came from. Seems like a computer monitor would be easier once you got the sync signals generated, since each color has a voltage input dedicated to it.

I got a nice one from goodwill for $40. I found it through Ebay if I remember correctly. A local store here has set up an ebay store, but I checked it just now, and it looks like it is no longer active. The store here is a goodwill that specializes in computers and electronics. I'd keep looking around ebay, or maybe search or post a "Want to buy" on craigslist, good deals can be found on there as well.

I wonder if you could re-purpose an old dot matrix printer. Those things have to be cheap on eBay.

Pardon me if I'm missing something obvious, but how would you use a dot-matrix printer as an oscilloscope?

I got mine at a flea market for $11. It is real "old school", and needed a tune up, but the price was right!

I want to know how to use a dot matrix printer as a o'scope too. I saw a really cool application of a printer to wind guitar pickups. For some reason, I never would have thought of it. I always hate stripping out a few parts and throwing the rest of a printer away. Of course, even in the pickup winder you end up throwing most of it away.

I guess you could use the laser and mirror trick with the printer, don't know how easy it would be. I'm sure the mirror on the speaker is easier.
