I need to weight a keg. I've hacked a digital scale but it's too thick to fit inside the kegerator so I'm trying to come up with something else to use.

One idea is a using a tube filled with something with a pressure sensor at one end, but I can't see how I would keep the keg level on the tube. Another idea is to use a load cell and mount a plate on it.

I don't know.

Kegs weight about 170lbs and are 17" in diameter.

any ideas?

Not ideal, but can you weigh the entire fridge?

I could, but it would make things much harder to guage since people sit stuff on top of thier kegerator and that would throw off my calculations.

What is the thickest the scale can be and still fit?

I have about an inch to work in.

I did some poking around, there are definitly 1" bathroom scales for under 40 dollars which will be the easiest route.

If you want some thing more DIY, buy a set of 4 strong half inch springs sandwhich them between two boards, use a photodiode/resistor to measure the distance between the the two boards, connect to an op-amp, calibrate and use hookes law.
