Hello everybody, I'm Alan Joyce (Alan Martin in SL), and I am a part of the development team for virtual Make Land (secondlife://tenera/84/196) in Second Life. I started this thread on pt's recommendation as a type of forum blog (flog?) where I (along with anybody else involved with virtual Make Land) can post about recent or upcoming Make-related developments and events in the virtual world of Second Life.
To get the thread rolling, I'd like to talk a bit about some of the recent improvements to the Make virtual theater and a big upcoming event to be held there.
Firstly, I've installed a new multimedia system, incorporating microphones that turn on-stage talk into shouts that the whole audience can hear, the giant Make television, and a new photo display. This display allows anyone to drop textures onto it, and then cycle through those textures using forward/back buttons. This way, we can show slides during a presentation, and easily add more as we go if necessary.
All this is in preparation for the event I mentioned. Hamlet Linden has mentioned on his blog that he is planning to host a Lawrence Lessig video viewing party at Make land within the next couple of days. Also, I have talked to Hamlet about getting a chat relay system for when Lessig himself comes in-world on the 18th, and it looks like Make Land will be hosting a remote listening party on that day for people who weren't able to get seats at the event itself, but want to hear what is going on there.
Stay tuned to this thread, and Hamlet's New World Notes for additional updates and exact times for both events.
The Lessig video-watching event has been set for Monday, January 16 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. It will take place at Make Land in Tenera (tenera/84/196), and be hosted by Hamlet Linden himself.

Professor Lessig talked about a wide range of subjects from his work on Creative Commons and its applications in a world of personal fabrication to possibilities for the future of SL intellectual property rights management.
The transcript of the event will be available on the Make Blog in a bit, so feel free to check it out once pt posts that.
