Hello all! I'm a complete geek that has spent most of his time focusing on building computers and i have a job with in tech support. I recently decided I wanted to get into tinkering with electronics, programing, etc. Let me first say that i have no experience in this area. I can't solder, code, etc. So i was looking for a place to start, and how to expand. I really interested in things like the aurduino and circuit bending and stuff like that. Can anyone point me in the right direction on things i should look at, books projects, or anything else. Thanks in advance.
For soldering: I picked up the Learn to Solder kit and a few simple kits (little blinky, hex pummer) from the Maker Shed. That seems to have done the trick. Mos tof the projects I make end up working!
For programming: Oye. There are so many languages and _types_ of languages that I'm not sure where to start.
If you are interested in "programming effects the outside world" kind of thing, the Arduino might be the place to start.
For general purpose programming, well, you could do worse than to get an introduction to Visual Basic type of book, one with lots of projects you can try out.
Well, as far as soldering, the best way to learn is to find another person who knows how to solder. In my case, that was my dad. The best way to begin making is to read MAKE and try out some of the projects there. That is how I got started.
Oh, and even tho I don't know much about programming, I know that Arduino and/or Basic Stamp may work for you and are both fairly simple and have tutorials available.
