A few weeks ago, I mentioned in passing to our Engineering dean that in an ideal world we would have a makers pace on campus. Apparently the idea resonated more than I expected and there is now a push by several members of the administration to explore the idea.
I'll be meeting with them in a week to discuss what would be needed to get such a place started. Bearing in mind that this will not likely have a big budget (simply getting space will be nothing short of a miracle), I would appreciate any suggestions on what kind of equipment would be best for starting off.
And if anyone has had experience getting a maker space started, I'd love to hear about how it went, particularly what pitfalls might be avoided.
