Makers and Making: I ♥ Electronics. What kind of jobs?

I'm a graduated Highschool student. Lots of big decisions ahead of me, and like many before me, I'm overwhelmed.

I love to make. Electronic circuits, microcontrollers, stuff like the Arduino system and the RaspberryPi fascinate me to death. Every spare minute I have, I'm soldering a new circuit, reading datasheets, writing python code, blogging, etc.

So, my main question is, (and I'll bet I'm not alone) What kind of jobs exist for people like me? Something that I would really love?

I'm willing to pursue nearly any education. But in the end, when I've got an EE degree, I don't simply want to work at an engineering firm.

I want to do something cool! Something awesome! Something radical. Basically, I want to Make.

So, what are your thoughts? Am I asking too much?

There are two kinds of "Making".

1.) Creating something novel on a monthly basis

2.) Creating something that has ever existed before.

To do #1, you probably want to go the route of movie props or something like that. A non-production, one-off design that can be thrown away after a month. To do #2, you are going to have to push your craft further than any other person has done before, which is what engineers aim to do.

So... Do a bunch of theater stuff.
